
Miyazaki had a passion for drawing and animation since he was young. While he graduated with a degree with political science and economic, he joined Toei Animation in 1963. Ghibli Studio released its first movie, Castle in the Sky (1986). This was followed by My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies in 1988.
Under Toei Animation, Miyazaki became a leader and worked his way up to becoming a chief animator for The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun (1968).

Toei Animation is best known for Sailor Moon, Digimon, Dragon Ball Z, and Digimon.
Upon creating for his new animation company, Miyazki drew inspiration from landscapes and photography for sketches. He also drew from real world events such as the Yugoslav War in 1991 for Porco Rosso (1992). His main character for Spirited Away (2001) was based on the daughter of a friend who frequented his home.
Despite having gone into retirement, Miyazki is still releasing new movies.
